The Training Course “Meet the Other” carried out between 9-15 August 2009, attempted to go beyond geographical differences regarding cultures and to approach different cultures and ethnical communities from a deeper perspective by means of analysing various sub-cultures within our local environment.
As the dialogue between cultures becomes a common priority for all youth communities around the world, the project aimed at developing in participants the skills to deal with diversities within themselves, but also diversities to be found in groups of youngsters from their community. Moreover, due to the general setting of the project , namely the composition of the group made of youth organizations from EU and Euromed countries and then also the historical background of Estonia – all project activities would challenge participants’ awareness by reflecting on their own environments through interaction with samples of sub-cultures found in Estonia and then transposing the findings into their reality at home.
Virumaa Youth Initiative (VYI) intends to organize a photo exhibition with samples of sub-cultures discovered by participants themselves throughout the project as a way of representing youngster’s perspective on project topic and Estonian reality (to be published on www.vni.ee).
