COOPERATIVA SOCIALE KARA BOBOWSKI - GROUP EVS PROJECT 2009-2011
Portico is a small village (800 inhabitants) in the Apennine hills on the border of Romagna and Tuscany. It is an attractive region: there are still a lot of castles, churches and monasteries to see and the beautiful countryside and the vicinity of the National Park of the Casentinesi Woods are important tourist attractions, especially in summer. The region's economy is mainly based on agriculture and tourism.
Portico is a hilly commune rather isolated from the nearest city Forlì (at about 25 km). The village is formed by three small fractions: Portico, San Benedetto and Bocconi. The most essential services are available: an elementary school with transport and refectory, a library and a home for elderly people; but other services lack, for example a secondary school, a kindergarten, permanent structured places for youngsters and an employment registry office. The places where youngsters spend most of their free time are the park with a playground, the gym, the sport camps and the music school.
Working within our activities the volunteers will have the chance to come in contact with the different values of solidarity that are at the base of our activity in the social field.
The volunteers will enrich the people they will stay in contact with because they can know different traditions, cultures and life experiences.
The volunteers will work within the following services runned by our organisation:
