'ART CONNEXION 2011'

Dear Youth Organisation Colleagues,

In 2011 Antwerp will be European Youth Capital (to read more about AEYC 2011, check http://www.aeyc2011.be/)

Our organisation is planning 'a multilateral arts happening' ('ART CONNEXION') for about 60 young people between 15 and 20 years old from many different European countries. All the youngsters will work, create and enjoy art together in Antwerp (Some of you might participated already in  'ART CONNEXION 2002' in Bruges). Therefore we are looking for partner organisations with the same missions, target group and objectives. Are you interested in participating in 'ART CONNEXION 2011' and in sending creative young people related to your organisation to Antwerp at the end of August 2011?

Presentation of our organisation:
'Villanella', is a Flemish arts organisation, specialised in the production and presentation of contemporary arts (mainly theatre, dance, literature, videogames and music) for the target group: young people (15-25). In order to realise a strong and interesting contact between audience and artist, 'Villanella' uses different strategies like festivals,  happenings, workshops, art contests.  An important part of the work is realised outside the official arts institutes. An important project of 'Villanella' is 'Kunstbende' (English translation: Artsgang).  A ‘competition in arts' for young people between 13 and 19 in the Flemish Community. Kunstbende tries to show the world exactly how authentic, original, different and rich young culture in our country can be. It aims to support in a professional way every kind of artistic expression of very young people as long as it is their choice and realisation. Young people can participate in different categories (music, fashion, dance, performance, photography, visual art, film, text, text on stage and DJ) but the main message is that "anything goes". Kunstbende wants to be a social and artistic activity and believes firmly that both fields can meet in perfect symbiosis. More info on http://www.kunstbende.be/

Criteria for selection for Art Connexion 2011:
Organisation:
- Every country has to send at least 4 younsters and maximum 8 youngsters + 1 superviser of the organisation (preferable a young leader).
- The composition of your group is a reflection of the cultural and social diversity in your country ands shows as many artsdisciplines as possible.
- Willing to participate in preparatory activities.

Youngsters
- Only youngsters between 15 and 20 years old are allowed to participate.
- Art Connexion will be in English, youngsters must have a basic knowledge of English and have good communication- and languages-skills.
- Participal experience in the arts or cultural sector, whatever level / kind / type, voluntary or others.
- Able and willing to have and to prepare for intensive intercultural experience.


Concept:
ARTSGANG
We are planning all kind of workshops, such as: music, dance, performance, design, photography, video, new media, stand-up comedy etc,... . They are delivered by professional young artists with educational qualities. The aim of the workshops is to create one more artistic products which can be shown. The subjects will be closely related to the environment of young people.

ANTWERP IS BURNING
As host city, we will organise a guided tour trough Antwerp City. The tour will show Antwerp as a young and dynamic city.

GET OUT
The evenings are meant for presentations, jam sessions, parties, open platforms and visiting other cultural events.

THINK AND SPEAK OUT
Continuous evaluation between the youngsters will be very important.
Beside the event, there will be meetings among those who are professionally involved with youth and culture. A broad spin-off of achieved experiences will be exchanged.

SHOW TIME!!
'ART CONNEXION' turns into an open festival for 2 days (Friday and Saturday). The public is invited to come and see results of workshops and performances of professional artists and companies in the field of theatre, dance, music, art works and literature.  The exchange is taking place during the year in wich Antwerp has its focus on young people as a targetgroup. 

10 day program in august 2011:
(probably 19-28/8/2011, alternatively 12-21/8/2011, see information sheet)
Friday: Arrival and opening of 'ART CONNEXION 2011'.
5 Days: Many different Artistic Workshops.
1 Day: Guided cultural tour trough Antwerp city.
2 Days: Two festival days where the participants can show their results of the workshops to a public. 
Sunday: Departure after breakfast.

Countries asked/involved:
The Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark,  Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Poland and Belgium.

Costs:

This project is part of a grant application for the European "Youth In Action"-programme,  by the organisation of AEYC 2011.  We try to minimise costs as much as possible, but a participation fee of 200 euro per person is needed to complete the budget. We provide food, drinks, sleeping accommodation (probably at a special designed youth camping), cultural trips, workshops,...
Travel expenses to/from Belgium will be partly  reimbursed by AEYC2011 or Europe (we hope 50 tot 70%)

Timing:
You can confirm your participation as partner organisation by simpy filling in the application form (see annex). Please, send it back BEFORE 15/08/2010.
If you read this mail only after 15th of august and you're interested in participating, don't hesitate to contact us.
We should finish our European grant application by September, 1st.
